Design Focus: Editorial Design, Infographics, Data Visualisation, Image Research
Overview:
As part of the UK's Most Talked About Cities series, Roll With It: How Hosting Drives City Investment is a data-driven, visually rich report exploring how cultural and sporting events act as catalysts for urban investment. Commissioned by ING Media’s Research Unit, the report was unveiled at the prestigious UKREiiF 2025 property and infrastructure forum, highlighting its relevance to city planners, investors, and policymakers.
My Role:
I was responsible for the graphic design of the entire publication—from concept development through to print production. The brief called for a format that would stand out both visually and physically, prompting the decision to produce the report as a fold-out map. This unique format allowed for a spatial and immersive storytelling experience that mirrored the geographical and cultural themes of the content.
Design Highlights:
-
Infographics & Data Visualisation: I translated dense research into digestible, compelling infographics, ensuring clarity and narrative flow. Charts, timelines, and heatmaps were designed to highlight key trends in urban hosting strategies and investment returns.
-
Editorial Layout: The fold-out map format required careful planning to manage sequencing, pacing, and legibility. Each panel was designed to stand alone while contributing to a cohesive story.
-
Imagery: Bold, full-bleed images of cultural icons like Taylor Swift and Liam Gallagher were featured to anchor the theme of celebrity-driven urban spectacle. These visuals added pop culture energy and drew direct connections between headline acts and host city impact.
-
Typography & Colour: A bold, contemporary type palette and colour scheme helped deliver a confident, engaging tone that matched the report's urban and cultural subject matter.
Outcome:
The final product was a standout piece at UKREiiF, sparking conversation among attendees and garnering praise for its originality and visual impact. It not only elevated the ING Media brand but also served as a compelling tool for communicating complex ideas about urban development in an accessible, memorable way.
